The Mid-Prairie marching band will bring the sounds of music back to home football games once again. The band will not participate in any competitions this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Band Director David Kuns is looking forward to their first halftime performance of the year on Friday, “We had a very good week at camp back in the first week of August. I thought it sounded very good. I think it was pretty clear to me my students really wanted to get back together and play. That’s why we all became musicians because we wanted to play in a band together. I think they’re really eager to do that again.”
The Mid-Prairie marching band will socially distance themselves on the football field and wear masks up until they have to play their instruments. The school is also investing in fabric bell covers for all instruments to block aerosol droplets from being expelled from the instruments. The band will feature the music of Chicago during this year’s halftime shows. Kunz says the Mid-Prairie fine arts faculty will discuss how school concerts will be held, either in person or recorded and posted online.
