The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering technical and financial assistance to farmers and livestock producers impacted by the derecho. Producers recovering should contact their local USDA Service Centers to report losses and learn about options to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure, and livestock losses and damages. There are multiple program available and Farm Service Agency county offices can assist.
Also, those who are in counties with disaster proclamations or are contiguous to those counties may be eligible for low-interest emergency loans. Farmers with federal crop insurance coverage are encouraged to contact their crop insurance agent within 72 hours of damage discovery and follow up in writing within 15 days.
