The Lone Tree football team is set to hit the gridiron for the first time tomorrow night when they open the 2020 campaign with a trip to North English to battle with English Valleys.
The Lions have to replace a big senior class last year losing 11 players from a 5-4 squad. Alex Viner is the top position player back after posting over 1,100 yards of total offense last fall and reaching pay dirt 19 times. Cade Shield looks to lead the defense and build off of 60 tackles.
Head Coach Aaron Bohr tells KCII Sports his team is ready to get after it. “Our guys are going to be fired up and ready. The last few months they have been working really hard when no one is looking. We talked about being appreciative about the opportunities we have because it doesn’t take much for things to get shutdown for the season. I think it is going to be a spirited performance from both teams and we will do our best to come out on top.”
The Bears bring back a lot from a 4-5 season including quarterback Cole Stephenson. The senior tallied 1,234 yards through the air and 17 touchdowns while Beau Flander is back after 1,309 rushing yards and 15 scores.
The Lions hope for similar results to their 70-0 drubbing over the Bears in 2019.
The season starts up tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at English Valleys High School.
