Nearly all of Iowa is now experiencing drought conditions with 96.31% of the state categorized as abnormally dry. That’s an increase of almost 10% from last week. According to the Western Regional Climate Center, 6.5% of Iowa is in extreme drought, 29.3% is in severe drought, and almost 61% is in moderate drought. The extremely dry areas are found in western Iowa.

Currently, the southern two-thirds of Washington County is abnormally dry with the northern area in moderate drought. All of Iowa County, along with western Johnson County and northern Keokuk County, is in moderate drought. Abnormally dry conditions stretch across all of Louisa, Henry, and Jefferson counties.

There’s a chance for thunderstorms in eastern Iowa tonight. And a mostly sunny weekend with high temperatures in the 80s is expected with a chance of strong thunderstorms on Monday. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
