A Washington County volleyball rivalry has had the same winner each of the last eight seasons and that streak continued on Thursday when Mid-Prairie invaded Washington and won by sweep.
The Golden Hawks took control early cruising through set one by a 25-16 tally and set two by 26-10. The Demons put up a fight in the third by jumping out to an 8-4 advantage and held a lead late in the set until Mid-Prairie did enough to come away with a 25-22 victory. Tori Boyse had a big offensive day with 10 kills and Landry Pacha recorded 25 assists. Alyssa McDowell led the defense with four blocks and Maddie Edgington dug out six balls.
Golden Hawk Head Coach Sherry Evans tells KCII Sports she liked how the team responded after falling behind in set three. “We never had the lead until the end so I am really proud of them for giving full effort all the time. They buckled down when they needed to and kept pushing forward. Tori was an animal. She was an all-conference player last year and I see it in her eyes that she wants to do it again this season.”
Halle Barkema led the Demon offense with five kills.
Washington starts the new season 0-1 and they travel to Mount Pleasant on Thursday. Mid-Prairie is 3-0 and hits the road to Durant on Tuesday.
