Derecho relief efforts are receiving $500,000 from the Riverside Casino’s parent company, Elite Casino Resorts, The Washington County Riverboat Foundation, and the Kehl Family Foundation. This half-million dollar donation will be split up five ways and donated to various organizations providing assistance to those recovering from the storm. The organizations receiving $100,000 include The American Red Cross of Eastern Iowa, United Way of East Central Iowa, the Salvation Army of Eastern Iowa, HACAP, and a grant process managed by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation during the 2020 Relief Grant Cycle. Elite Casino Resorts CEO Dan Kehl says it was great to see these organizations putting forth their best efforts to help the Cedar Rapids community recover, “Our hearts go out to everybody and we feel glad that we are able to be in a position to do this. Blessed and hopefully this will help some folks get their lives back in order quickly and get our communities back on track. It’s all good for us.” The donated money was collected last week and was immediately allocated to the five selected organizations.
