Transportation at the Highland Community School District is running smoothly amid a challenging school year. Coming into the school year, the district is down five bus drivers, including one who resigned the Sunday before the first day of school, and the district is looking to hire more soon. Despite the lack of drivers, Superintendent Ken Crawford says transportation is running efficiently and health and safety guidelines are being implemented with no issues.

Students are seated one to a seat and have an assigned seat all year in order to conduct contact tracing for COVID-19 if the need arises. Face shields are provided to students if they do not have a personal face covering to wear. After each trip, drivers are cleaning and disinfecting the bus prior to picking up their next batch of students. As of Monday, Crawford says no conversations have been had on any teacher contracting COVID-19 and few students are quarantining this week.
