With just two days to prepare for a new opponent, the Sigourney-Keota football team hits their home gridiron for the first time this season when they host Union La Porte City tonight.
At the beginning of the week the Cobras were preparing to face Eddyville-Blakesburg tonight, but the matchup was cancelled and on Wednesday Sigourney-Keota announced the Knights would be the new foe. Union is a 2A team that went 2-7 in 2019 and opened the new campaign with a 30-16 loss to Oelwein last week. The Knights aired the ball out about half of their plays with Grant Behrens completing 10 of 17 passes for 123 yards. Jacob Carey showed big play ability with 119 rushing yards and two scores on just six carries. Brandon Tompkins was everywhere defensively with 17 tackles.
The Cobras will try to keep the good times rolling after a statement win over Mid-Prairie by a final tally of 27-21. Cade Molyneux had a strong debut with 93 rushing yards and a touchdown. The junior spin back also completed all five of his pass attempts for 32 yards and a score. The Sigourney-Keota defense did give up 448 yards of total offense, but held the Golden Hawks scoreless until the second half.
Week two action begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Sigourney.
