A school-age librarian from the Washington Public Library was one of 14 librarians statewide selected for Project READY. Jenisa Harris was chosen by the State Library of Iowa to participate in the professional development curriculum aimed to improve equity and access for diverse youth programs in libraries. Project READY stands for Reimagining Equity and Access for Diverse Youth with the primary focus on improving relationships with, services to, and resources for youth of color and Native youth.
The 14 selected will work through 27 modules of curriculum over the next nine months to strengthen and broaden their work for area children and teens. Those who complete the program receive 35 continuing education credits towards their State Library Endorsement renewal. The program is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and has been developed by faculty at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
