The WACO Warrior football team looks to make it back-to-back wins to start 2020 tonight when they travel to New London to meet the Tigers. The Warriors are 1-0 after an exciting 33-32 win over No. 15 HLV in week one on the road. WACO was up 12-6 at the half, but trailed 32-25 in the game’s final frame before they drove the field for the winning score, a 43-yard Will Edeker touchdown run, that he followed up with a successful two point conversion to get the win by one. Edeker led the Warriors at 10 of 21 through the air for 124 yards one touchdown and one interception. His favorite targets were Zach Schmitz and Kolton Connelly who each hauled in four passes, Schmitz had a touchdown. On the ground, Edeker went 17 carries for 101 yards and four scores. Simeon Reichenbach led the WACO defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery. The Warriors forced three HLV turnovers in the game.

New London is a matching 1-0 on the year after a 32-13 week one win over Moravia. That game for the Tigers featured Blaise Porter rushing for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Porter also pulled down two interceptions to lead a Tiger defense that forced three turnovers on the night. This week, Warrior head coach Chad Edeker talked about preparing for New London. “I think that winning drive to end the HLV game was big. Every year there is a play or set of plays that send your season in the right or wrong direction and even though that was only week one, it feels like it can set the tone for the season. We are going to have to physical against New London. They lost a lot but they return Blaise Porter at quarterback. He’s a running style quarterback, almost like having a third back in the backfield. Our kids will be ready and it will be fun.”

These two teams met a season ago with the Tigers taking a 56- 50 win. New London also got a win over WACO in 2018. The Warriors last win in the series came in 2015. Action between the Warriors and Tigers kicks off tonight at 7p.m. at New London High School.
