Drought conditions have grown worse in Iowa over the last week according to the National Weather Service. More than half of the state has been experiencing drought conditions since the second week of July. According to the most recent data, 14.65% of Iowa is in extreme drought, 37.25% is in severe drought, 82.77% is in moderate drought, and over 99% of the state is abnormally dry.

Currently, all of Washington County is experiencing moderate drought conditions, under which soybeans may abort pods, grasses brown, and pond levels decline. Severe drought has crept into the northern part of Keokuk County and covers most of Iowa County. The most severe conditions are in west-central Iowa.
