Mid-Prairie students will still be held accountable for unexcused absences while learning through the Mid-Prairie Virtual Academy. The school board updated their student absences policy to include disciplinary action for students who are consistently absent from class work while learning remotely. Students will receive three unexcused tardies before receiving an unexcused absence.
If students receive 10 unexcused absences, a letter will be sent home, 15 absences and a parent meeting will be called, and 20 absences will result in a conversation between the parent, student, building administrator, and the county attorney. Parents should notify the student’s attendance center if they know they will be missing class, just as they would if they were attending in-person. The school defines illnesses, family emergencies, recognized religious observances, and school-sponsored or approved activities as excused absences with prior notification.
