September is National Recovery Month in observance of the substance abuse treatments and mental health services available to aid in recovery. Prevention Specialist with Prelude Sarah Smith says there’s no one-size fits all approach to recovery. She says people in recovery can try traditional centers, peer support, or church groups to help.
Smith says this month Prelude is encouraging community members to place a purple letter R in a window to show support, “The idea is that strong communities make for strong recovery. And so, it really is to help reduce the stigma of addiction, and to encourage those people who may need help to get help, and that there will be support from people in the community.”
To recognize the month, Prelude Behavioral Services is holding a variety of events and activities that people can take part in virtually or independently from rock painting to Facebook live talks.
