A pair of KCII area volleyball teams will be in action on the hard court today at the Wilton tournament.
Hillcrest Academy comes into the day with an 0-6 overall record. They fell to Mediapolis in Kalona on Thursday in four sets. For the season, the Ravens are led by Esther Hughes with 37 kills, seventh most in the Superconference North. Yani Gutierrez has the team lead with 32 assists and Grace Miller paces the Raven defense with 69 digs, ninth most in the north. The Ravens dropped all three matches at this tournament last season.
Winfield-Mt. Union is 6-2 on the year. Last time out they swept Wapello in straight sets Tuesday. For the season the Wolves are led by Jenna Buffington with 74 kills, tops in the Superconference North. Keely Malone has 77 assists, best on the team and third in the north. The Wolves defense is led by Kyndal Townsley with 63 digs. Those two teams met twice a season ago with the Wolves sweeping both matches. WMU went 3-1 at this tournament last year, posting wins over Mt. Pleasant, Midland and Hillcrest before falling to the Beavers in straight sets.
Other teams that will attend include Lisbon, Midland, Mt. Pleasant and No. 3 in class 2A Wilton. Action begins at 9a.m. and continues throughout the day at Wilton High School.
