Signs of remembrance will line the sidewalks of Washington’s Central Park this weekend as Hospice of Washington County’s annual 5k goes virtual. Each year the non-profit organization holds a 5k for members of the community to remember and honor loved ones who have passed. Traditionally along the route through Sunset Park and the Kewash Trail signs with their names and photos are posted. This year due to COVID-19 the 5k is going virtual, meaning those who sign up will have a week to complete it on a path of their choosing.
Robyn Harvey-Kuntz with Hospice of Washington County says the change is making it easier for more people to take part, “I am really hoping that it actually expands in a different way. I heard from a few people that don’t live here anymore in Washington and would loved to have participated in events in the past, but cannot do it because they don’t live here. So, this year, folks that are in various parts of the country are like sending me notes and messages saying, ‘Hey, I want to participate. I can do this.’ And they’re excited about it. There’s just a different kind of excitement in the air, it’s not the same sort of excitement. But, I think it’s a good excitement. We’re going to learn something different from this.”
People are welcome to visit the signs in Central Park this weekend. There’s still time to register – to do so click here. Funds raised go toward patient care.
