The Lone Tree football team will look to make it back-to-back wins Friday when they welcome New London to town. The Lions scored their first victory of the season last week in a 42-6 throttling of the WACO Warriors. In the contest, Lone Tree was led by Alex Viner with 17 carries for 173 yards and three scores. Cade Patterson had a receiving touchdown and the Lone Tree defense was led by Matthew Hemsted’s 11 tackles and a Patterson interception. For the season the Lions are led by Viner with 273 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries. In the passing game, Cade Shield is 21 of 44 for 243 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Cade Patterson is the Lion’s top receiver with 12 catches for 164 yards and a touchdown. Will Hotz leads the Lion defense with 15.5 tackles.
New London saw their unbeaten start and top 10 ranking in eight man football come to an end last week when they were beaten by No. 4 Montezuma 56-20. In the contest they were led by Blaise Porter with three touchdowns and 210 yards on 19 carries. For the season the Tigers are led by Porter with 423 yards and eight touchdowns on 45 carries. The Tigers have not gone to the air much with Ethan Streeter at 2 of 10 for 81 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Richey has the Tiger’s only touchdown catch. The New London defense is led by Currey Jacobs with 19 total stops. This week, Lone Tree head coach Aaron Bohr talked about getting ready for New London. “They have a really solid football team and good recent tradition. They have been one of the top teams in 8-man football in Iowa since they moved to the class. They lost a bit from last year, but bring back some key guys. They always play fast and have a great running game. We are going to have to watch assignments, attack and stay in lanes. We can’t over run plays or they have some guys that will make it hurt.”
These two teams met a year ago with the Lions taking a 48-42 win. Action begins on Friday at 7p.m. at Lone Tree High School.
