The City of Riverside has created a task force composed of Highland High School government students to aid in the improvement of city playground equipment. The Citizen Advisory Committee Task Force will have students talk with individuals from three different age groups, five-12 year olds, teenagers, and parents of younger children, to gather information for possible improvements to Riverside parks. Councilmember Jeanine Redlinger is spearheading the task force, and says this is an opportunity to get high school students interested in local government and see how their communities run on a daily basis.
The students will compile their information and make recommendations to the Riverside City Council, Parks Committee and Planning and Zoning Commission. They will also have the opportunity to help the city apply for grants, including ones for ADA-compliant playground equipment and improvements. Redlinger says the task force is open to any community member who would like to join.
