Iowans can start voting by mail or in person at their county auditor’s office in less than three weeks and they’re encouraged to register to vote ahead of time. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, the board approved a resolution recognizing September as Voter Registration Month.

Supervisor Chairman Jack Seward added that September 22nd is National Voter Registration Day, “This is going to be a pretty important thing this year, a presidential election year. Just encourage everyone to register to vote, you can do that in the auditor’s office.” Iowans can also register to vote online through the Secretary of State’s website – click here.

In Iowa, people have a few options to get their votes in. People can request a ballot be mailed to them, they can then fill it out at home and either mail it back or take it to the county courthouse before election day. Only one absentee ballot request needs to be submitted. They can also vote early in person at the county auditor’s office. Early voting in Iowa begins October 5th.

The general election day is the first Tuesday of November. On November 3rd, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and voters are reminded to take an ID with them to cast a ballot. For more voting information in Iowa click here.
