Drought conditions have lessened in Iowa following last week’s steady rain. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 78.25% of Iowa is now abnormally dry, down from 95% last week. Currently, nearly 23% is in severe drought and 47.15% of the state is in moderate drought. It is the first time since the end of July that Iowa hasn’t had any areas categorized as extreme drought.

In the KCII-listening area, all of Washington, Jefferson, and Louisa Counties are abnormally dry along with most of Henry and Johnson Counties. Keokuk County is abnormally dry with moderate drought in the northern part of the county and most of Iowa County is in moderate drought.

The forecast calls for dry conditions through the weekend with high temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
