The Timm Lamb Cross Country Invitational took place in Fort Madison on Thursday and three area teams made the haul south.
The headliner of the night was Washington junior boy Lance Sobaski running away with the large school title in 16:42, 22 seconds faster than the rest of the pack. Washington boys managed sixth out of seven in the division with 116 points and Muscatine won with 49. Micah Rees finished 14th (18:11) and Drew Horak was 32nd (19:11).
The Wildcat boys had a runner-up finish out of seven schools in the small division with 59 points and Danville recorded a perfect score of 15. Isaac Acosta had another strong showing in sixth clocking in at 17:58 and Damian Vergara tallied 12th (18:53). Mason Hills-Carrier was 14th (18:57), Alex Rivas 15th (19:06), and Freddy Vergara 16th (19:07). Winfield-Mt. Union was third in the team standings with 107 points with Dane Sweezer in ninth (18:24) and Gabriel Hemsworth 17th (19:16).
The Demon girls had a successful road trip placing second out of five teams in the big school division with 62 points while Muscatine won it all with 46. Taylor Bartholomew paced the team in ninth with a time of 22:36 and Hannah Rees was right behind in 10th (22:39). Other top 15 finishes included Grace Voss in 12th (22:53.1) and Abby Kleese 13th (22:53.3). Winfield-Mt. Union and Columbus Community did not have enough for a team score in the small division, but the Wolves’ Avery Maeder crossed the finish line in 13th (24:26) and Averi Sipes paced the Wildcats in 25th (27:32).
