Homecoming week was capped off in a big way at Sigourney High School, as the Sigourney-Keota football team had little trouble against Van Buren in a 48-13 blowout on Friday.

This one was put to rest early with the Cobras recovering a fumble on the first play from scrimmage and reached the end zone on the next snap. They racked up 28 first quarter points and led 48-0 at the break. Junior varsity players closed out the rest of the night and 11 Cobras carried the rock led by Sam Sieren with 48 rushing yards and a score. Ethan Shifflet and Brady Duwa each added a touchdown on the ground and Duwa caught three passes that all reached pay dirt. Cade Molyneux and Colton Clarahan combined to go four of five through the air for 82 yards and the three touchdowns to Duwa. Jack Clarahan produced seven tackles for a defense that forced two takeaways.

Head Coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports things went as planned. “Overall it was a great night and we got everyone in. You can’t ask much more for a homecoming game. We got out of the gates strong, put it to them, and got everyone involved.”

The Cobras move to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in district play. They hit the road Friday for the backyard brawl against Pekin (1-2).
