The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team is back on the floor at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman Monday to take on the West Branch Bears. This match was originally scheduled for September 3rd, but was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The Golden Hawks come into the match with a 4-3 overall record, having dropped three matches in a row, including a four set loss at Cascade on Thursday. For the year, Mid-Prairie is led by Tori Boyse with 43 kills. Landry Pacha has 105 assists, fourth most in the River Valley Conference South division. Maddie Edgington and Paige Peiffer share the lead for the Golden Hawk defense with 48 digs each.
West Branch comes into the match with an overall mark of 10-3. The Bears are ranked No. 11 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last time out they went 3-1 at the Lisbon tournament over the weekend, beating Midland, North Fayette Valley and West Burlington before falling to Anamosa two out of three. On the year the Bears are led by Iva Senio with 87 kills, fifth best in the RVC South. Nicki Henson has 228 assists, third best in the south with Lexie Peak leading the Bears defense at 102 digs, eighth in the River Valley South. These two teams met once a season ago with the Bears winning in four sets. West Branch has won 16 straight matches over the Golden Hawks with Mid-Prairie’s last win in the series coming in 2008. Action begins tonight at 7:15 at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
