Wayland Mayor Greg Rich passed away September 17 due to a sudden illness. Rich has served on the Wayland City Council since 2004 and has been mayor since 2018. The Mayor pro-tem, Chet Fort, will take over mayoral duties until the vacancy is filled. Visitation is being held today at Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland. A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday at the Cottonwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the City of Wayland Wetlands Project, Wayland Fire Department, or the Cottonwood Cemetery.
