A teenager was taken by helicopter to the hospital after falling off of a vehicle while car surfing on Old Highway 34 in Henry County. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday officials were notified of the incident in the 1100 grid of Old Highway 34 near Rome. Personnel found that a teenager was driving the vehicle while 18-year-old Sawyer Carrasco was car surfing, meaning he was on top of the moving vehicle. Carrasco fell off the hood of the vehicle onto the road and sustained a head injury. He was taken by helicopter to the hospital. The driver was cited for reckless driving. Following the call, officers began an investigation into an underage drinking party. Three juveniles were charged with alcohol under the legal age and they were released to their parents. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Midwest Ambulance, Henry County Ambulance, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, Medforce, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
