A Mount Pleasant man has been taken into custody after taking a hostage and having a standoff with police officers. According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, at 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, a woman had run into a neighbor’s trailer at a trailer court at 200 East South Street in Mount Pleasant and told a witness she had been tied up by 48-year-old Chadley Yeakey. Yeakey went to the neighbors trailer and dragged the woman back to another trailer. Mount Pleasant Police Officers responded and found Yeakey and the female barricaded in a room with Yeakey brandishing a knife.
Officers spoke to him for 90 minutes until he released the woman. He eventually surrendered peacefully. The female victim was transported to the Henry County Health Center. Yeakey was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail. He was charged with domestic abuse – display or use of a weapon, kidnapping, willful injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon. The Mount Pleasant Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and Henry County Health Center Ambulance crew assisted at the scene.
