The Hillcrest Academy Raven volleyball team is on the floor tonight for the annual Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament when they travel to Central Lee High School in Donnellson. The Ravens come into the event as the three seed with an overall record of 1-12. Last time out, Hillcrest was beaten by Wapello Thursday three sets to one. For the season, the Ravens are led by Esther Hughes with 73 kills, sixth most in the Superconference North division. Norah Yoder has 66 assists, best on the team and ninth in the north. Grace Miller has a team best 142 digs, sixth in the north division.

The Notre Dame Nikes will also be at Central Lee tonight, they come in with an overall record of 4-3. Last time on the court they went 4-1 at the Keokuk Tournament with wins over Holy Trinity Catholic, New London, Keokuk, and Van Buren while falling to Central Lee. On the season the Nikes are led by Gabby Deery with 83 kills, seventh most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division. Karli Artman has 164 assists, sixth most in the south with Katy Stephens leading the Nike defense with 69 digs.

Central Lee comes into their home gym tonight with an overall record of 12-5. Last time on the floor, the Hawks were a perfect 3-0 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Tournament on Monday, beating Fort Madison, Keokuk and the Crusaders. On the season the Hawks are led by Mya Merschman with 151 kills, second in the SEISC South. Macy Watkins paces the Hawks with 238 assists, third most in the south. Abby Wellman has a team best 158 digs, best in the south. This week, Raven head volleyball coach Taylor Kurtz broke down her team’s goals for the night and what will make the conference tournament a success for the Ravens. “It will be a successful night for us if we are competitive. If we take a set, or even take a win. These girls have worked hard and they deserve a conference win.”

The Ravens last met Central Lee in 2016, sweeping the Hawks in the SEISC Tournament. The Nikes and Ravens met in last year’s edition of this event with the Nikes getting the win by sweep. Action begins tonight at 5p.m. at Central Lee High School.
