Washington County Hospital and Clinics will soon be seeing improvements to the facility’s parking lot and roof. Chief Operating Officer Bridget Hill says these are important steps for WCHC, “We have a great plan operations department. We’re trying to remain fiscally sound, but also make sure that we have a great infrastructure to care for our patients for years to come.” The work will be paid for through the hospital’s capital project funds.
Director of Plant Operations Craig Pettit explains why these projects were prioritized, “So the parking lot is strictly based on patient safety. We have a lot of trip hazards and stuff that we’re trying to remedy. [It’s an] ongoing maintenance project, probably should’ve been done sooner but now we’re getting it done. The roofing project is more to, our life expectancy on our roof is well past due, so we’re playing catch up there. So, we have 16,600 square-feet of roof that’s going to be replaced to protect the facility.”
The southeast corner of the existing roof is past its life expectancy. The roof work has a $220,000 construction estimate and is currently open for bids.
The parking lot improvements were estimated to cost $208,280. There was one bidder for the parking lot improvements – LL Pelling. They will be working on the main entrance parking lot, south parking lot in front of Grace C. Mae and the southeast parking lot in front of the med clinic. The circle drive to the emergency room and main entrance will remain open during work. The work is expected to start the beginning of November.
