The Backyard Brawl between Sigourney-Keota and Pekin has featured many nail biting bouts over the years in one of Southeast Iowa’s biggest rivalries. Friday night was not one of them. In the biggest blowout in the game’s 13-year existence, the Cobras invaded Packwood for week five action and stomped their way to a 49-0 shutout victory.

Wire to wire this game was controlled by the purple and gold, as they tallied 21 first quarter points, led 28-0 at the break, and never looked back the rest of the way. Sam Sieren took over the run game with 14 rushes for 185 yards and reached pay dirt four times. Cade Molyneux and Colton Clarahan each tossed a touchdown pass to Brady Duwa. The passing game was three of seven for 101 yards. Jack Clarahan led a stingy defense with seven tackles.

Head Coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports pitching a shutout is not an easy feat. “We have guys on defense that are flying around the field and making plays. Our kids have been tackling well when they get to the ball carrier. Our defensive line has done a great job of keeping our backers clean and giving alleys to our safeties to fill.”

The Cobras stay perfect and move to 5-0 on the season. They gear up for the rematch against Mediapolis on Friday with the district title on the line.
