The Highland Huskies picked up their first win of 2020 on Friday, rolling through visiting North Cedar on Homecoming 55-14. Things were tight early with the game tied at six after the first quarter and Highland holding a slim 18-14 lead at the half. The Huskies opened things up in the second half, outscoring the Knights 36-0 after the break to seal the win. Highland finished with 425 yards of total offense, 419 of that on the ground. They held North Cedar to just 104 rushing yards. The Huskies were led by Owen Donovan with 221 yards on just 14 carries, he found the end zone twice, including a 43 yard touchdown run. Connor Grinstead also got over the century mark on the ground with 111 yards and a pair of scores on nine carries. Easton Schlabaugh and Caedon Harbison both added touchdown runs for the Huskies. Luke Miller led the Highland defense with seven and a half tackles. The Highland secondary came away with three interceptions as Miller, Grinstead and Donovan each picked off North Cedar quarterback Jaxon Sander once. This week on the KCII Radio Coaches Corner, Highland head coach Scott Morel broke down the win. “In the first half, they got their points on a short field. I thought our defense played well and handled their business. In the second half we made our adjustments. We talk all the time about doing the little things. It was good to see them get out there and execute on that. Owen Donovan had a great game, so did Connor Grinstead. It was nice to be able to get some of our young kids some time in the game also. Our halftime message was to continue to fight and compete and they did.”

With the victory, Highland is now 1-3 on the year as they get ready to travel to top 10 Lisbon on Friday, North Cedar is now 0-4.
