
It’s an all-KCII area showdown tonight in Winfield when the Wolves host the Hillcrest Academy Raven volleyball team in Superconference action. Hillcrest comes into the match with an overall record of 1-14. The Ravens are coming off of an 0-2 showing in the Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament a week ago where they were swept in pool play by Burlington Notre Dame and Central Lee. On the season, the Ravens are led by Esther Hughes with 78 kills, sixth most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference north division. Yani Gutierrez leads Hillcrest with 71 assists, ninth in the north while Grace Miller leads the Raven defense with 154 digs, fifth most in the conference.
Winfield-Mt. Union comes in with an overall record of 15-5, they are tied for the Superconference at 4-0. Last time the Wolves were on the floor they were swept by West Burlington Saturday at Southeastern Community College in the finals of the Superconference tournament. For the year, the Lady Wolves are led by Jenna Buffington with 173 kills, most in the Superconference north. Keely Malone’s 176 assists are best on the team and third most in the conference while Kyndal Townsley paces the WMU defense with 153 digs, sixth most in the conference. These two teams met earlier this year with the Wolves winning in a sweep. Action begins tonight at 6p.m. in Winfield.
