Soon pumpkins will be on display in downtown Washington as the Festival of Pumpkins returns. The Washington Public Library is bringing back the public art project this month.
Library Director Bryna Walker says it is open to all ages, “This is for kids and adults. And you can decorate your favorite character from a book or inspiration from a story. And then we will begin accepting the decorated pumpkins the first week of October.” Do not submit carved pumpkins, as they don’t last the entire month.
Pumpkins will then be placed in the library’s windows for passersby to view. In past years pumpkins have been transformed into a variety of characters including Fancy Nancy, Pete the Cat, and Harry Potter.
