Area cross country teams flocked to Twin Lakes Country Club on Thursday and the Columbus Community boys made headlines once again.
The Wildcats finished third out of 11 teams with 91 points while Danville won it all with 15. Isaac Acosta paced Columbus in ninth clocking in at 18:13. Other top performers included Damian Vergara 17th (18:58), Freddy Vergara 19th (19:10), and Mason Hills-Carrier 22nd (19:20). The host Wolves placed ninth with 211 points. Dane Sweezer crossed the finish line in 18th (19:07) and Gabe Hemsworth was 27th (19:54). Lone Tree was 10th in the team standings with 238 points and Nick Saltzman placed 29th (19:57). WACO did not have a team score, but Jonah Egli was 40th (20:45).
On the girls’ side, no area team posted a score with Avery Maeder of Winfield-Mt. Union having the top individual finish in 17th (24:41). WACO’s McKenzie Vradenburg was 23rd (25:29) and Columbus’ Averi Sipes was 26th (26:03).
