A teenager younger than the age to have a legal license was arrested after driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent on Sunday. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:23 p.m., deputies were searching for the vehicle and located it running at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Winfield Avenue, near the Pilot Truck Stop in Winfield. The juvenile operator fled from the scene and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle stopped after nearly losing control at the intersection of Mapleleaf Drive and Grand Avenue.
The juvenile was arrested, brought to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and later released to a guardian. They were charged with eluding – speeding over 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, aggravated misdemeanor; operating vehicle without owner’s consent, aggravated misdemeanor; reckless driving, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without a valid driver’s license, and failing to obey a traffic control device. The Winfield Police Department, and Mount Pleasant Police Department assisted at the scene.
