The Winfield-Mt. Union football team lost to the English Valleys Bears last week with the final score of 32-12.
The Bears were up 19-6 after the first quarter and then they just kept rolling. The Wolves went two for five through the air with 30 passing yards. The run game was very beneficial with the team having a total of 176 yards on the ground. Andrew Brady led the way with 82 yards on 16 carries. Cam Buffington had 10.5 tackles to lead the defense. The Bears went 10/17 through the air with 152 passing yards. They also had a great game on the ground with 197 yards and 185 of them coming from Beau Flander. The defense was led by Brayden Mikesell who had 11 tackles and one for a loss.
WMU Head Coach Scott McCarty tells KCII Sports it was a rough start, but his team started to settle in after the first. “We started doing what we were supposed to do. We were stringing out and then getting back in pursuit. We got our kids dialed in and executed what we were supposed to do. Jack Jennings did what he does on the defensive line and he had some help up there from Bryce Wade and Andrew Brady. Our linebackers were able to flow around a little bit.”
The Bears move to 5-1 after this win and the Wolves’ record changes to 3-3. Winfield is looking to get their fourth win this season this week against WACO while English Valleys is looking for their sixth win against Collins-Maxwell.
