The Lone Tree football team will try to close the regular year with three straight wins Friday when they travel to top five Montezuma. The Lions are 3-2 on the season after wins in back to back weeks over GMG and Moravia by a combined 102-28 score. In their most recent victory at Moravia Saturday, the Lions were led by Alex Viner with 197 yards and five touchdowns on 16 carries. Matthew Hemsted compiled 10 and a half tackles and Cade Patterson added an interception. On the season, Cade Sheild is 45 of 90 for 604 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions through the air. His favorite target is Patterson with 25 catches for 333 yards and five scores. Viner leads the way on the ground with 634 yards on 64 carries with 12 touchdowns. Defensively, Will Hotz has 44 and a half tackles.

Montezuma comes into the matchup at a perfect 6-0 on the season after a 55-20 win at Roth Field over WACO last week where Eddie Burgess posted 340 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns including 272 yards on 19 of 25 passing for five touchdowns through the air. The Braves are ranked No. 5 in eight-man football according to this week’s poll from the Iowa Associated Press. On the season, Monte is led by Burgess at 93 of 143 for 1,649 yards, 27 touchdowns and two interceptions through the air. On the ground, Burgess is also the leader with 680 yards on 81 carries and 15 touchdowns. His 44 touchdowns along with his passing yards, passing touchdowns and completions all lead eight man football in Iowa. His favorite target is Trey Shearer with 42 catches for 696 yards and 13 touchdowns. His catches, yards and touchdowns lead eight man football. Brian Diaz leads the Braves defense with 43 tackles.

These two teams met a season ago with the Lions scoring a 69-63 win. Action begins at 7p.m. Friday at Montezuma High School.
