Next week will be prime time to view colorful leaves in the southern third of Iowa. According to the Department of Natural Resources’ weekly report, in southeast Iowa black walnut, silver maple, elm, and cottonwood are showing color. Red can be seen in sumac and some urban maple trees. Hickory trees are showing brown and a little yellow. The leaves of silver maples are showing some yellow while oaks are still mostly green. And along the roadside you can see purple and reds from dogwood, wild plum, and poison ivy.
