Soil moisture is in better shape in southeast Iowa than the state as a whole. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, topsoil moisture across the Hawkeye State is rated at 55% adequate, 31% short, and 14% very short. In southeast Iowa, topsoil moisture is 3% surplus, 70% adequate, 19% short, and 8% very short.
In regard to subsoil moisture, statewide it is 48% adequate and 52% short to very short. In southeast Iowa, subsoil moisture is 2% surplus, 69% adequate, 20% short, and 9% very short.
