Many businesses and offices will be closed Monday for the federally observed holiday Columbus Day. It was two years ago that Governor Kim Reynolds proclaimed Iowa’s first Indigenous Peoples Day on the second Monday of October. Banks will be closed for the holiday and the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail. Post offices will be closed. According to the Library of Congress, the first recorded celebration of Columbus Day in the United States took place October 12, 1792, the 300th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ landing.
