
Keosauqua was the location for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference cross country meet last night and one area team cracked the top three.
The Columbus boys placed third out of 11 teams with 91 points, only trailing Pekin with 65 and Danville with 28. Isaac Acosta cracked the top 10 at Riverview Country Club placing sixth in a time of 17:31 while Pekin’s Brady Millikin was the conference champ in 16:07. Other top Wildcat finishes included Mason Hills-Carrier 20th (18:46), Damian Vergara 21st (18:49), and Alex Rivas 22nd (18:54).
Winfield-Mt. Union finished sixth as a team with 168 points. Dane Sweezer had a solid showing placing 18th (18:29) and Brody Barton returned from injury to finish 24th (18:58). Highland was the other area team that posted a score in 11th with 256 points and Carlos Valenzuela led them in 33rd (20:10). Top individuals for team’s without a score included WACO’s Jonah Egli in 32nd (20:02), Hillcrest Academy’s Will Kolck in 41st (20:20), and Lone Tree’s Cale Christofferson in 52nd (20:53).
On the girls’ side no area team posted a team score, but Hillcrest Academy’s Leah Bontrager did her thing placing eighth in 21:29. Danville’s Addison Farrott crossed the finish line first in 18:57. The Ravens’ Julia Boller was 35th in the 61 runner field (25:21). Highland’s Madison Thomann had a strong showing in 18th (23:15), Winfield-Mt. Union’s Avery Maeder was not far behind in 22nd (23:41), Averi Sipes of Columbus Community placed 37th (25:32), and WACO’s McKenzie Vradenburg claimed 44th place (26:54).
