Capping off a perfect regular season and claiming their first district title since 2013 is the goal for the Washington football team tonight when they travel to Keokuk for week seven action.
The Demons (6-0) had little resistance the last couple weeks by outscoring Fairfield and Burlington 137-20 at Case Field. The defense pitched their first shutout of the season last week and held Burlington to negative yards of total offense. The Demon offense has been scorching lately and Trashaun Willis leads the way. The dual threat quarterback has 482 yards through the air.
Expect more of a challenge tonight, as the Chiefs are 3-2 overall, 2-1 in the district, and could share the league title with a win. The offensive success revolves around four-year starting quarterback Corey Skinner. The senior has completed 44 of 84 passes for 591 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also recorded over half of their rushing stats with 885 yards on the ground and eight scores. Demon Head Coach James Harris knows Skinner is going to be a handful. “He has a bunch of experience and can do it all. As a runner he is really dangerous and they do a lot of unique stuff with him in the run game. He can also make all of the throws. They want the ball in his hands and he has consistently made big plays for them.”
The chance to capture a district crown begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Keokuk. Can’t make the trip? Join us on FM 106.1 KCII for live play-by-play coverage starting at 7 p.m. The KCII Football Friday Preview Show to analyze all games in Southeast Iowa begins at 6 p.m.
