The Washington volleyball team hosted several area schools for a tournament on Saturday and the Demons picked up their first wins of the season.
The Demons fell to Regina 12-21 and 15-21, but had a successful day beating Sigourney 21-12, 15-21, 15-8, Highland 21-16, 15-21, 15-4, and Hillcrest Academy 21-13, 19-21, 16-14. The team improves to 3-17 and gear up for day two of the Southeast Conference tournament tonight in Mount Pleasant.
In addition to falling to Washington, the Ravens were swept by Sigourney 17-21, 17-21 and Regina 9-21, 16-21, but edged Highland 16-21, 21-12, 16-15. Hillcrest Academy finishes the regular season 3-19 and face off with Winfield-Mt. Union on Monday in the first round of the class 1A regionals.
The Huskies went 1-3 on the day also losing to Regina 9-21, 12-21, but they defeated Tri-County 21-11, 21-13. Highland is now 5-16 and makes the short trip to Lone Tree (5-16) today.
The Savages also had one win at the tournament by defeating Tri-County 21-10, 21-9. Sigourney is 7-15 and compete in the South Iowa Cedar League tournament this week.
