Iowa’s corn and soybean harvests are ahead of average. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 25% of Iowa’s corn for grain has been harvested which is over three weeks ahead of last year and 12 days ahead of average. It is only the second time in the last two decades that at least one-quarter of the corn for grain crop was harvested by October 4th. In southeast Iowa, 24% of corn has been harvested.
Across the Hawkeye State 55% of soybeans have been harvested, nine days ahead of average. In southeast Iowa, 32% of soybeans are out of the field.
Statewide corn condition is rated at 45% good to excellent, 31% fair, and 24% poor to very poor. Soybeans are rated at 49% good to excellent, 33% fair, and 18% poor to very poor.
