Treats will be abundant in downtown Washington this week with Choctoberfest and Hocus Pocus in the Park. Choctoberfest begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. Washington Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Alisha Davis says people can get treats while getting deals at local businesses, “Participants can go shopping around the square and they can get a candy at each store and it will unwrap some savings. So, anywhere from like 10-50% off one item, or they’re just doing a bunch of different promotions.” Eleven businesses are participating. There will also be three golden tickets with Chamber Bucks prizes.
On Friday night, Central Park will become a Halloween hotspot with Hocus Pocus in the Park. Main Street Washington, the Chamber of Commerce, and the YMCA are teaming up for the family event that starts at 6 p.m. Costumes are encouraged. There will be a free meal and candy bag giveaway for the first 300 participants. Activities will include a costume contest, pumpkin giveaway, pumpkin decorating contest, and graveyard games. The KCII Big Red Radio will be on hand playing music.
At 7:30 p.m. Movie on Main Street will commence with a showing of Hocus Pocus on the big screen on the bandstand. People should bring their own lawn chair and a blanket, and remember to socially distance.
