Yellow, purple, green, red, and brown leaves can be seen across southeast Iowa. According to the weekly report from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, colors in the region started to pop in the last week. Yellow leaves can be seen in hickory, walnut, silver maple, and sugar maple trees. Oaks are starting to show a mix of colors. Sumac and poison ivy are showing a deep red and dogwoods are showing purple in roadside ditches. Southeast Iowa’s peak leaf viewing is happening now through October 22nd.
