A proposed agreement to transfer an ambulance from the City of Riverside to Washington County will be discussed at the next Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting. The City of Riverside owns an ambulance that was used in conjunction with emergency services provided by the Riverside Fire Department. The agreement has already been approved by the Riverside City Council.

The agreement states that the county will “continue to maintain it, insure it, and use it to serve the emergency needs of the City of Riverside.” In another section it states, “the City of Riverside is now contracting with Washington County to provide ambulance service for the citizens of Riverside.”

The item was discussed at this week’s meeting and Supervisor Richard Young brought up some concerns, “There’s things I think in this resolution that we need to discuss about this process. I just want to make sure that when we approve this or agree to this that we are getting it free and clear. It seems to me in this agreement that there’s some attachments to it. It talks about us contracting with the city, I don’t believe we’re contracting with the City of Riverside.” One concern he raised what happens when the ambulance is ready to be traded in and said terms are not clear.

Supervisor Chairman Jack Seward suggested discussing the agreement further. The item was unanimously tabled until next week’s meeting. Washington County began its ambulance service on July 1st and now has a base in the city of Washington and a second in Kalona.
