Five early outs have been added to the Washington School District calendar for the first semester. At the recent Washington School Board meeting the motion to add the early outs on Fridays was passed unanimously.

Superintendent Willie Stone explained the time will help teachers, “Districtwide buildings were ordinarily able to have PLC meetings and content area meetings during this time to discuss student needs, and to plan, and do formative assessment stuff. Just doing a lot of things we need that time for and we can’t do that now because at 7:50 a.m. we make those kids report directly to their classroom. … For our middle school and high school teachers this might not be as big of a deal because students typically do not need as much guidance. They do need guidance, but you may be able to do some things while the students are in there. But for our elementary students it means they have to start right away because our students need that structure and guidance.”

The school board approved adding the 1:10 p.m. early outs on the remaining Fridays through the end of the first semester. The added early outs fall on October 23rd, November 13th, December 11th, December 18th, and January 8th. With this change, every Friday between now and January 22nd either has a 1:10 p.m. early out or no school.
