The Lone Tree Lion and Highland Huskie cross country teams finished their 2020 season Thursday night at Cascade in the class 1A state qualifier meet. Neither team was able to qualify teams or runners for the state meet in Fort Dodge. In the boys meet, Lone Tree finished in eighth place of 11 teams with their score of 217 points, Bellevue won the meet with 56 points. Top finish for Lone Tree came from Alberto Cortez in 28th with a time of 20:23. Other Lion finishers included Nick Saltzman 44th, Cale Christofferson 47th, William Rockafellow 58th, and Joey Birtcher 83rd.
The Highland boys were 10th with 228 points. They were led by Ethan Paisley in 42nd with a time of 21:09. Other Highland finishers included Carlos Valenzuela 50th, Bryce Thompson 55th, Jacob Rolling 56th, Jackson Schneider 70th, Andrew Lana 71st, and Brendan Schnoebelen 84th.
In the girls race, Highland did not post a team score but the Huskies were led by Taylor Sublette in 17th with a time of 23:16. Other Highland runners included Madison Thomann 20th, Katelyn Waters 39th, and Fiona Mahler 47th. The state meet will take place in Fort Dodge at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course on Halloween.
