A man has been arrested for methamphetamine delivery resulting in death in Fairfield. According to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, on Saturday deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Lee Brown of Stockport. He was arrested on a felony arrest warrant out of Jefferson County for charges of involuntary manslaughter, a class D felony, and delivery of methamphetamine less than five grams, a class C felony. Brown is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
The charges stem from the July 31st death of Dustin Canaday of Fairfield. Following an investigation by the Fairfield Police Department, Brown allegedly provided the victim with a pre-loaded syringe of meth that he referred to as “thick.” The victim used it. According to officials, a short time later Brown allegedly mixed a shot of methamphetamine and alka-seltzer and the victim drank it. A short time later, Canaday became ill and then unresponsive. A call to 911 was made and the victim was pronounced deceased at the Jefferson County Hospital.
An autopsy indicated the cause of death was acute methamphetamine toxicity.
A preliminary hearing for Brown has been scheduled for November 3rd.
