The Iowa Association of Track Coaches released their final set of rankings for the 2020 cross country season this week.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls remain No. 1 in the class 2A poll, where they have been every week but one on the season. This follows Mid-Prairie’s school record setting performance en route to the team title at the Williamsburg state qualifier meet last week. The state championship favorite Golden Hawks have four ranked runners in their lineup led by state qualifier meet champion and individual state title favorite Danielle Hostetler at No. 1. Sydney Yoder is ranked third, Jaden Yoder fourth and Abby Fleming 21st.
The Mid-Prairie boys are sixth in class 2A for the second straight poll. The Hawks were team runners-up at the Williamsburg state qualifier meet last week. Mid-Prairie has two ranked runners in their lineup led by No. 8 Jamison Stutzman. He’s this week’s JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week for KCII following his individual runner-up showing in Williamsburg. Nathan Wallington is ranked No. 28 this week.
The Washington Demons have their individual school record holder Lance Sobaski at No. 16 this week in class 3A.
The Columbus Wildcats are also spotted in this week’s poll. Head coach Steve Riley and his boys check in at No. 16 in the class 1A team rankings. KCII will have live coverage of the state cross country meet in Fort Dodge both today and tomorrow on-air and online at kciiradio.com. Those races feature all of the runners and teams from this story along with Mason Moore of Sigourney and Leah Bontrager of Hillcrest Academy. The one to count on for today’s local sports coverage is AM and FM KCII.
