The competition ramps up tonight for the #4 ranked Washington football team when the Demons host #9 West Delaware in a class 3A round of 16 playoff matchup.
The Hawks are 9-1 and had little trouble in a 55-20 win over Western Dubuque in the second round last week. Firepower offensively is something they don’t lack, as they average over 400 yards of total offense a night led by dual-threat quarterback Jared Voss. The senior has completed 65% of his passes for 985 yards and nine touchdowns while also leading the ground attack with 1,095 yards and 24 scores. Wyatt Voelker is a dangerous back with 992 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns with Kyle Cole being their top receiver hauling in 27 receptions for 399 yards and reaching pay dirt five times. While the position players are dangerous, Demon Head Coach James Harris tells KCII Sports their success starts with their enormous dudes upfront. “The first thing that stands out on film is the right side of the offensive line are large humans. The guard and tackle are both 6’6’’ 300 lbs and they have a 295 lb tight end. They certainly want to run the football and pound the rock behind these big guys.”
Something will have to give with a potent Hawk offense going up against a stingy Demon (8-0) defense that has given up just 54 rushing yards and 12 points a game. Zayne Laws leads that unit with 47 tackles including eight for a loss. The Washington offense has been rolling with at least 40 points in each of the last five games. Trashaun Willis has racked up 1,303 total yards and being responsible for 24 touchdowns. Wyatt Stout has 524 rushing yards and 10 scores on the year.
